I read a few places with less than favorable comparisons between Google’s recently announced blogsearch and other blog search engines. Lets be unscientifically concise an clear. Ask yourself: “How long have the other search guys been in business and how long has google been doing blogsearch?” The very next question is “What is the defacto search standard for most people and how long did that take?” I don’t know how you can answer questions about scaling the service or comparisons when its different colors and shapes of fruit; but I do know that solutions and services take awhile to mature. Everything has a built-in cycle to completion including human life.

The main thing I think is that Google BlogSearch is there. It forces a level of competitiveness and honesty on the others in the playing field. Now the Technorati’s\ and the PubSubs and even others have to re-analyze their playing field. Google is the 800 lb gorilla at this stuff. It probably goes without saying that they know how to scale infrastructure and they understand the needs there. They also have another thing besides knowledge that is needed. They have bucks. Bucks are important here. Everything costs bucks. Maturing the service and modeling the solution costs bucks. Will it come down to who has the most bucks or will it actually be who knows how to spend the bucks they have wisely? Who really knows. But if a competitor has $10.00 to spend on maturation and modeling, they can perhaps elicit contributions from the lovers of the service-at-large and get a thing done. If the gorilla has a few million or even more and its an important solution and service, they can buy those at-large consultants and form a pool of consultants that can run rampant over the $10.00 guys. Its something to merely think about.

I don’t have any set desires one way or the other. My stance is one of just watching and waiting. As the power moves go on and I think there will also be those shadowy moves behind the curtain, we shall surely see how th solution is modeled and the service matures. One day, the new players will emerge. Will they be just like the old players?

Only time will tell… And perhaps how many bucks you got.
